Our score 4

There are probably multiple reasons for the fact that I'm completely out of touch with what's going on in mainstream music. I think the main reason is the fact that my wife and I don't have cable television, which is the reason I didn't know about this "Battle for Ozzfest" reality show. However, according to this paperwork, Manntis was a finalist in this battle. Good for them. but I'm still not impressed. Hey have you heard God Forbid Manntis sure have. They've also heard of Killswitch Engage, and other American bands, who have heard of Swedish bands, who have heard of Slayer and Testament. Well, I don't suppose it matters what everyone has heard of, but you'll hear it all on "Sleep in Your Grave." It's all here: slick production, pounding double bass drumming, tremolo picking, throaty vocals, and the occasional clean singing. Are the guys in Manntis bad at what they do Nope. In fact, they are quite competent. Does that mean I want to hear another metal/hardcore/Swedish-influenced, American band Nope. I can't pick out one single moment where I truly give a fuck about this album, but I'm a harsher critic of mediocrity as time goes on. The people who don't care about challenging, inspiring music, could very well love this album, because it will bash you over the head with heavy riffs. Every now and then there is a snappy arpeggio, and the songs don't run on forever, so that's good. Some guitar work, throughout this album, is quite good, but that doesn't mean the riffs are interesting. The vocals are strong, but a bit monotonous. The lyrics are sub-par to my taste, because I just can't relate to: "bow down and beg / time to pay / axe redemption." Oh, and by the way, fire your proofreaders, because the entire layout reads as if a 10 year old put it together. Bottom Line: I've heard that "tech-hardcore" is the new "metalcore," so it's obvious that "metalcore" is today's "nu-metal." Therefore, I'm sure that these guys will do well, providing they can shake off the "hey aren't you guys that band from the Ozzfest reality show" While I think that this is rehashed, uninspired metal, I have no doubt this band appeals to the majority of kids out there. Kids in malls are stoked, and the guys at Century Media are probably kicking back and counting their money.

gay post

xtroyx_ 8/12/2005 9:52:32 PM

hah that review was so harsh. i've never heard this band, and i don't think i want to.

dukes_ 8/12/2005 11:33:21 PM

this actually isnt that bad. they dont rely on breakdowns in songs to get the listeners attention. i wouldnt even call this metalcore because its more heavy metal than anything. people who like the showdown and god forbid should eat this up. should be 6/10 at the least.

Mike_ 8/12/2005 11:40:18 PM

It's always fun to rip an album here and there, but these guys are obviously trying hard and they have some skill and their songs start and end on point, which can't be said about a lot of the more respected bands out there. Just because I'm a die hard Testament, Slayer, Megadeth, Obituary, etc fan and have been since their heydays, doesn't mean I am obliged to hate on every band who cites them for influence. This deserved a 7/10 both for effort and execution, even if they are a new band trying

dukes_ 8/12/2005 11:40:47 PM

also why would someone who has a premeditated bias against "metalcore" do a review on a band such as this? i know lambgoat has a thing against metalcore now but atleast let someone who likes the genre bash the record.

generic_gimmick_ 8/12/2005 11:48:16 PM

fuckingfight_ 8/12/2005 11:49:28 PM

br00tal review.

eaglesbecomevultures_ 8/12/2005 11:54:42 PM

metalcore sucks, get over it.

ThousandBleedingStars_ 8/12/2005 11:57:21 PM

This is the best cd this year! Period end of story. I like to put this cd on repeat and watch Donnie Darko muted to see if it has any significance. So

the dude_ 8/12/2005 11:58:36 PM

How can this band hold a candle to a band like Ion Dissonance or even Goblin, who did the soundtrack for the 1978 version of Dawn of the Dead? I bet that, and I'm not 100% on this, a fat woman farting would be more entertaining. Just a guess.

vaginas_ 8/13/2005 12:43:23 AM

"The people who don't care about challenging, inspiring music, could very well love this album, because it will bash you over the head with heavy riffs." correct. i dont need dillinger or ion d. too make me feel all L33T. music is music. if you want something new and creative youll have to go back to the 60's.

fuck you_ 8/13/2005 1:14:50 AM

"This is the best cd this year! Period end of story. I like to put this cd on repeat and watch Donnie Darko muted to see if it has any significance. So" shut the f*ck up and stop watching family guy you douche

Best review I have ever read, ever. Lambgoat should let Robert do all the reviews from now on. This one made me laugh. The begginning of the second paragraph is great. -C

Mike_ 8/13/2005 2:23:20 AM

sorry fools, but I love metal as much as any of you and this album is awesome. Reviewer had his head up his ass on this one

grantgoodmorrow_ 8/13/2005 4:04:31 AM

Hey, Rob McFeters, I think, you need, more commas, in your review. Fire YOUR proofreaders, mutherf*cker.

thegoddamnawesome_ 8/13/2005 7:38:04 AM

oooh burn!

I_AM_FUCK_ 8/13/2005 10:11:27 AM

WUHHHOAHHH, this reviewer is DARK. No care about this band.

mindrot_ 8/13/2005 12:13:49 PM

maybe reviews would be more entertaining if they were written from a fictional characters perspective. like an alien or wolfmachine or drone monster. when will ET review the next "amazingcore" band?

Konstrix_ 8/13/2005 12:51:15 PM

agreed on the commas being a little much and improperly placed in many areas. decent content however.

veganstastegood_ 8/13/2005 12:55:41 PM

anonymous 8/13/2005 1:15:42 PM

the third paragraph actually says that the music is good, and his only reason for not giving them a higher score is that he doesn't like their contrived sound. yet the showdown were given a boasting score by the same reviewer.

whitelambpowergoat_ 8/13/2005 1:27:27 PM

this cd f*cking sucks now get over it

Rob McFeters_ 8/13/2005 2:05:44 PM

I didn't review the showdown. I don't even know who that is.

chase_ 8/13/2005 2:56:13 PM

i agree this band is similar to the showdown yet they receive 5 marks lower. there is barely anything metalcore about this record besides a few breakdowns. i wouldnt say rush out and buy this, but its more than worth a listen if you have the chance to. 6 or 7/10.

Alex_ 8/13/2005 3:08:29 PM

They got big just cause of a TV show. They didnt tour at all before hand, they didnt work for their status. No Respect. No Care.

kingben_ 8/13/2005 4:07:30 PM

listened to the mp3. this shit is pretty bad. leads me to believe that this review is 100% correct.

anonymous 8/13/2005 4:16:01 PM

matt_ 8/13/2005 8:47:00 PM

personally, I hate this cd, but i knew lambgoat wouldnt give it a good review as soon as I saw the name on the homepage simply because it's "mainstream". This site is full of eliteists who claim to want "their" music back, whatever the f*ck that means. Most of the kids on this site have only listened to hardcore/metal/what the f*ck ever for like 2 years tops.

alex_ 8/14/2005 6:32:24 PM

matt - you're a f*cking idiot. that's all.

chris L._ 8/14/2005 6:37:21 PM

Too bad Matt was right!

chris_ 8/14/2005 10:01:35 PM

yeah, i was right!

atreyu 's biggest fan_ 8/15/2005 6:47:01 PM

whatever, just another by-the-numbers metalcore band. horrible band. get the f*ck over it and stop whining, they suck. they already sold their sold their sould to mtv anyway.

vaginas_ 8/15/2005 7:46:24 PM

omg they were on mtv????? sell outs!!! i guess sick of it all, madball, earth crisis, dropkick murphys, agnostic front, integrity, and strife should be added to that list too.

Kevin_Lovelost_ 8/15/2005 8:03:34 PM

the mp3 linked isnt bad at all..nothing inspiring but some good tunes

dan_ 8/19/2005 2:46:11 AM

f*ck that mp3 is terrible. the structuring is pure shit. whoever likes this, get your head out of your shithole.

PalmerLCC_ 8/20/2005 12:25:55 AM

Thank you vjayjay well said. Half of you nig knocks would jump out of your pants if MTV offered your band full of 20 year olds a shot at a TV show who wouldnt?? use your f*ckin heads

No one cares_ 8/29/2005 11:31:49 AM

Good review Rob, i agree completely

anonymous 9/14/2005 1:09:23 PM

funny thing is this band was shitty brocore before that ozzfest theyre just hiding the surfers in them

Bellusch_ 9/22/2005 1:30:19 AM

A fairly decent release, perhaps a 6 out of 10. I'm into the fact that each song is less than three minutes long. When I press play, then take one of my several dumps of the day, by track 3, I'm wiping my ass, and track 4, flushing the toilet.
