Let me just say to begin that I thought this album might be promising at first. Sure, the cover and album name were pretty cliché, but you can’t judge a book by its cover, right And then the name. As fellow reviewer Cory stated in an earlier review, a band name should at least make sense. One Cycle Occur doesn’t fit the mold, but I could forgive them if this turned out to be gold. Well, sadly, this is not gold. It’s not even silver. In fact, this is barely above nickel in my opinion. I realize that it’s still hip to be tech nowadays, but if you decide to start a band for this reason alone (not to say that One Cycle Occur is guilty of this; they easily could have fallen into this genre by pure accident), please write songs with a bit of structure. Any little bit will help, trust me. You don’t have to have a chorus, verse, and bridge, but don’t just meander on from one riff to the next with out any thought to what it might sound like to the average listener. And please don’t be tech for the sake of tech. Few bands can pull this off, and even fewer know a lot about ‘extreme’ time signatures and exaggerated arpeggios. If you don’t follow these rules, I guarantee that you will end up sounding like One Cycle Occur: no form, no coherence. This is probably the first band I’ve even chosen to write a purely negative review on, but I only did so to make a distinction between bands that really know how to write ‘technical’ metal and those bands who think that two dissonant chords strummed over and over to an onslaught of down-tuned bass and erratic drumming complete with mindless and overly-layered screaming is the equivalent of a seamless Daughters-Converge mix. It just doesn’t work. Bottom Line: I refrain from calling this terrible since it was at least recorded alright and some work went into layout and album theme, etc., but I have to emphasize the utter lack of contempt for structure and musical progression in this album. All in all, this is listenable for about 10 seconds total.

"The REAL Bob Rock" couldn't have heard this. we're the only ones who have them. the cliche cover art is just to be that-cliche. everyone likes chicks and guns. at least you tried to give us props for being 'tech'. converge stopped being tech with the new album anyway. seriously though, we're pretentious jerk-offs who like to make noise. so that's what we make. noise. and we're glad you hate it.

this guy obviously doesn't have a good ear since he said the recording was good when in fact it's not. and i don't understand how someone on lamegoat can bash a band for being tech when every other band with a good review on lamegoat is tech.
