Friday, June 08, 2012 7:35 PM PT

Official press release:

This week the return of the annual day-long invasion of Los Angeles has been confirmed via the 2012 installment of the massive The Power Of The Riff Festival.

Continuing to bring you a tradition of heavy music from slow drones to aggressive crust ridden darkness, The Power Of The Riff will burn down LA on August 11th, marking the gathering's third annual installment. Co-curated and organized by Southern Lord, TPOTR is an event that honors extreme music fans and musicians of all ages, tapping into a lineup that represents the forefathers, milestones and current national touring acts, while shedding light on up-and-coming and local acts. The all-day fest also includes a record swap-meet of local stores and pop-up stores by indie record labels, DJ sets in between band performances and a gourmet food truck court featuring Los Angeles' best purveyors of street food dining.

Set to take place at the Echo/Echoplex, the initial lineup for The Power Of The Riff 2012 at press time includes:

OFF!
Dr.Know
Repulsion
Noothgrush
Xibalba
Eagle Twin
Power Trip
Ancestors
Alpha & Omega
Gaza
DNF
Retox
The Love Below
Avon Ladies
Cop
Hordes

Tickets for the event go on sale this weekend at this location.

TMZ reports Hollywood Undead jumped the promoters and will now be headlining this fest.

Yes, it's the "initial" lineup and it's terrible and isn't a good indicator of what's to come. All of these bands either play all the time, or aren't very good.
And yeah Dr Know was pretty rad 20+ years ago. B Cruz isn't even singing at this point.

There's seriously not 1 "big" band or "holy shit" band on here. No reunions, no "first time in the US," or anything like that. It's a collection of bands who tour regularly. It could be Sound and Fury for christs sakes!
