Official press release:
Joey Southside, vocalist of New Jersey hardcore heroes, The Banner, has announced that he is hard at work on his own comic book series. The project, with the working title of "Life Is Hell" is the first signing to My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero's, Skeleton Crew Publishing. The series will follow a band of anti-heroes including a werewolf and vampire who will be tackling threats even more horrorific than themselves. Combining splatter-punk elements, the book will focus a great deal on the hardcore punk lifestyle as a backdrop for the series. The Banner have made a name for themselves with their raw punk/hardcore sound that imbues other elements such as dark, gothy textures into their sound and a lyrical bent using horror references for real life metaphors. Southside comments "I began work on this some time ago and what's ironic is a lot of the script has inspired lyrics from our new album and not vice versa." The new album he is referring to is "Each Breath Haunted," which is the band's first album for Hardcore powerhouse, Ferret Music (Every Time I Die, Madball). The title, Southside explains, refers to the constant presence of bad things inside, things that make you want to isolate yourself from other people.
The Banner hail from the same Jersey town as My Chemical Romance and are that band's preferred opening act when home. Southside has completed work on the scripts for seven issues and is in talks with several artists at the moment.
