Hailing from South Carolina, Stretch Arm Strong (SAS) combine the energy and positive aspects of old-school hard/posi-core, with metal-tinged riffs and melodies of the new-school. Originally starting as a four-piece, the band would go through a few personnel changes and finally solidify into a quartet. Since its inception, SAS has been quite a prolific band, releasing two seven-inches ("Not Without Resistance" and "It Burns Clean"), split seven-inches with Prevail and Bedlam, numerous compilation discs, and three full-lengths. The first, "Compassion Fills the Void," was released on Uprising Records (7 Angels 7 Plagues, Kid Gorgeous). Following the release, the band would move to Solid State Records, Tooth and Nail Records' hardcore/metal imprint label. Its second full-length, "Rituals of Life" (1999) received critical acclaim from reviewers and listeners alike. The band's latest effort, "A Revolution Transmission" (2001), continued to display SAS's ability to meld melody and hardcore. Further, SAS has toured all over the world with numerous high-profile hardcore/metal acts. Quite possibly the closest thing to a new millennium version of Gorilla Biscuits, fans of melodic posi-core must take a listen. hide
