(Give Up The Ghost is the new name of American Nightmare as a lawsuit from another band of the same name forced a name change.
) Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, American Nightmare was formed in the fall of 1999 by ex-Ten Yard Fight guitarist Tim Cossar. Enlisting several friends, which included Wes Eisold on vocals, the band recorded (and re-recorded) a demo in early-2000. The demo, which attracted much attention, coupled with a string of successful tours, led to American Nightmare's partnering with Boston's Bridge Nine Records. The band released two well-received CDEP/7" on the label (S/T, 'The Sun Isn't Getting Any Brighter'), before leaving for Equal Vision Records in 2001. In June of 2001, the band would release its debut full-length, entitled 'Background Music,' which featured three re-recorded tracks from the band's Bridge Nine releases, as well as eight new songs. While maintaining a fast and frantic old-school hardcore sound, American Nightmare gives the genre several new twists, including dark personal lyrics and numerous breakdowns. hide
