The masks are a gimmick, just like the "family" bullshit hardcore bands use to make. The real bands are the ones that don't bend over backwards to accomodate fans, couldn't give a fuck if anyone likes or even listens to their records, but are genuinely appreciative of people that understand it. Everything is a marketing gimmick, from Eighteen Visions to Indecision to Shai Hulud to Slipknot.
